Cover girl Perfect Blend Eye Pencil Basic Black Review

Today I will be reviewing an eye liner from Covergirl, the Cover girl Perfect Blend Eye Pencil in Basic Black. I have earlier tried its mascara, Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion Mascara and was super-duper impressed with its performance, let’s see how this eye liner performed on me.

Product Claims: Our classic liner with blending power. For a defined look, draw a precise line; for a smoky look, softly smudge with the plush blender tip.

Direction for Use:-

  1. Before applying liner, determine your eye shape. If eyes are close-set or round, line only the outer corners. Otherwise, rim the entire upper lid.
  2. Gently pull your eyelid taut at an upward angle. Beginning at the inner corner, draw small, connected dashes along the top lashes. Be sure to stay close to the roots so there is no skin visible between the lashes and the liner.
  3. To make eyes look bigger, extend the liner slightly beyond the outer corners.
  4. Soften the line with a sponge tip or cotton swab by rubbing it slightly up and out at the outer corners.
  5. Finish the look with powder shadow and two coats of mascara.

My experience with Cover girl Perfect Blend Eye Pencil Basic Black:-

Basic Black is a nice deep black shade with a creamy formula which glides on smoothly without any tugging or pulling. The eye pencil comes with a “blender tip” which smudges the liner for that soft smokey smudged eye look. The formula is not smudge-proof may be its designed that way so that it can be easily smudged.

I find it easy to draw sharp, thin lines with this pencil compared to my Faces Eye liner in Black which is way too creamy. Also, shape of the pencil gives better control on thickness on the lines you want to draw as this pencil isn’t very thick nor too thin unlike Faces Eye liner which is a bit thicker than these.

The liner is safe to be used on waterline too and gives a decent color pay-off as Kohl too. The color pay-off is best when used as liner on upper or lower lash line as it goes almost opaque in a single swipe and doesn’t loose its pigmentation even after smudging. The formula is soft and creamy but the tip doesn’t break during sharpening or application.

Swatch-

The liner lasts whole day on me but smudges badly by end of day. It transfers to the lid area when worn on upper/lower lash line on me but  doesn’t give raccoon eyes if worn lightly, set it with a power eye shadow to reduce the transfer.

EOTD – I have worn it on both upper and lower lash line and created wing with Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eye Liner-Black

Pros of Cover girl Perfect Blend Eye Pencil Basic Black:-

  1. Goes on smoothly
  2. Well pigmented
  3. Everyday eye liner
  4. Great for soft Smokey look
  5. Can be used as Kohl (on waterline)
  6. Doesn’t break while sharpening
  7. Removes easily
  8. Inexpensive
  9. Safe for sensitive eyes too
  10. Available in large number of shades

Cons of Cover girl Perfect Blend Eye Pencil – Basic Black:-

  1. Smudges easily
  2. Transfers on oily lids
  3. Not water-resistant as claimed
  4. Contains Parabens

Recommendation:- Cover girl Perfect Blend Eye Pencil Basic Black is a dark black eye liner with a smooth creamy formula which gets applied very easily. It is provided with a blending tip for creating soft smudgy look which works well. The liner fades only slightly when smudged but it has slightly disappointing staying power as it transfers easily on oily lids.

This is how it looked on me..

Rating:- 3.5/5
