Doubts Discussion: How to Monetize Blog?
Hello Everyone,
Today I have this very interesting question, that we often ask and would love to hear about ways to do it.. Yes, It is about monetization of blog. Sooner or late we all want to earn from the hard work we put in blogging. So, lets see what my beautiful reader wants to know about.. 🙂
Hey Poo! I have a question or a few rather.
Have you monetized your blog? How have you done that? Have you worked with affiliate marketing? I got an offer from a website that does affiliate marketing and I dunno if it is a good idea or not. So I’m trying to educate myself.
Just let me know if you know anything about this because I am totally blank and feel like a moron.
- Yes I did monetized my blog, as you can see the ad banners running here and there on the blog. I am using Google adsense along with Chitika. Now that I know you will be asking how to get your Google adsense account approved 🙂 … I would suggest hold your horses and be patient before applying for Google Adsense. Let you blog establish for at least 6 months till then it shall get visibility and followers and be indexed by Google. There are 99% chances that your application will get rejected if you just start blogging and apply for Google Adsense
- Yes, I use affiliate marketing like Flipkart, Amazon but it is of no use until you have a large number of page views or you aggressively promote those affiliate links. I havent been able to earn a single penny yet. 😛
Now, the most important thing that normally no blogger (especially beauty bloggers) would like to share is their earnings. I don’t know about others but I haven’t been able to earn any decent amount yet. The amount I earn from Google adsense( my main income source) in a month doesn’t even suffice to buy me a Lakme Lipstick (forget MAC or alike :P). Earning from Chitika and other affiliate links is almost ZERO.
I am not demotivating you but this is what all I experienced. On the positive side, you may earn some though paid posts but the amount offered by the brands is mearge barely reaching 4 figure :(. Indian blogging industry needs a revolution where brands should start considering beauty bloggers as mainstream influencers, respect them and should be eager to pay them handsome amounts or support them and their blogs.
So what all I can say for now is that, Beauty Blogging is quite an investment and returns from it are far -fetched (at least for me).

this was my exact answer when she asked me the same question :P
:D :D.. woo..so I guess we all are in the same boat ;)
Nice thoughts dear. I totally agree that earning money out of blog is a tough job.
It all depends on fan following only which should not be the only criteria I feel.
Content , creativity and type of blog should also be considered.
I agree...Its a big investment and returns are less. I still blog because I love to and frankly now I am addicted to it!! But we need to start charging for everything now (from Press Releases to attending events!!) Indian Beauty Blogging needs a revolution!!!
I totally agree with you that Indian brand industry should take bloggers really serious and not treat them as greedy only for their samples, the earning is almost near to zero with blogs and investment is reaching in lakhs for bloggers :/
Thank you girls :) I love blogging, thats why it has taken me close to 4 years to even consider monetizing it. I kept thinking maybe I wasn't doing it right or maybe there were options I hadn't considered. I guess its just the Indian industry that works like this.
Completely second you on every word you have put in this article.. considering the hard work I put in to blogging I am not earning even 1/100th of it. Sometimes it becomes very demotivating but my love for makeup and passion for writing keeps me going.
True to every word! I have been asked the same question many times & I have listed similar points...Firstly Google ads is really really difficult to get approved of..& even If you do the Ads don't make a lot of money.. whatever little I make, is due to sponsored posts which really adds upto nothing....If one has to be a full time blogger..It's very hard..Indian Blogging scene really needs a change...I am not saying that all Brand PR's are bad...I have met some very nice ones who are ready to negotiate & some are just very rude...At the end of the day I remind myself I blog only because I love to! Not for anyone else....
Wow! such a honest clear picture. I think bloggers in India should have some sort of syndication so they can ask for a right amount and also this would help brands have a more focused branding.
This is such a great post Poo.. You are doing an awesome job posting about such queries which many newbee bloggers go through :).. I also had doubts on how to bloggers make money and nearly how much. There are so many of them and many Indian Bloggers have left their jobs to pursue it full time, so I was always wondering "How much they are they making to leave their nice paying jobs and take this full time".
same story here.. I applied for google adsense account and it never got approved..Now I dont even bother checking if it ever got approved or not :P I wonder if i would ever start earning through blog.. It feels dissapointing at times but then I feel glad to talk to so many girls who are equally crazy for makeup .. I feel like I am at the right place :D
