Sunday Fixtures – “My Favorite Column”
After a tiring and exhausting week at office.. not that I was overburdened with stuff but waking up early to catch the cab at 7 am in the morning drains out all the energy from me. So, weekend is much awaited part of the week like all others. I’m sure more than 90% of the people in this software fraternity are sailing in the same boat.

School days were all engrossed in course books, I never have been a Bookworm but the only thing that I read were course books. I actually started reading, something other than the course ones only during my graduation. I must be sounding like a student from age-old education sytem but that’s the fact. In metro cities, the education level is better and students are encouraged to enhance their reading & writing skills but in my case the only thing teachers or Students were concerned about were exams and marks.
I am dragging off the topic and boring you with uninteresting events of my life, so lets stop blabbering about my times and start with the things I am here to share with you today. I reinvented my hobby of reading, starting with newspaper but the only page that could hold my attention and interest me is HT City. Many of you may differ but I find the main newspaper full of depressing news and ever deteriorating India’s situation. I often glance at the headlines and quick view of Business paper if it divulges something of my interest. I am working on including a few minutes of book reading schedule in ever changing routine. But as of now, in my hussy fussy life, I believe it is more than enough for me to read HT City daily. :P.
Finally coming to topic.. the day I wait whole week to come is Sunday.. Now you’ll who doesn’t !!! but my reason to wait is different 😛 😛 . Like everybody else in the world I Love Sunday….bcz its Sunday.. The funday..) but there is one more reason for me to love Sunday …. That’s “My favorite column”
No matter how many times I read my horror scope… (I know its horoscope but I like it better as “Horror Scope” 😛 ) out of curiosity to see if it holds true for me, but I barely remember anything as soon as I reach the Hollywood section , the last page of HT City. Though I do not believe in them (Sure…May be.. ) and find them too generic to really point out something related to me but I enjoy reading and listening to my horrorscope.
One fine day, while checking out the horoscope section my eyes were caught down in the corner of the paper with a must read kind title “5 things About Girls that Guy should know”. I know the title was apt to draw attention of any guy into reading it but it sounded tempting to me too. I was eager to see if what I want is really wanted by anybody else too Or what all I should want from a guy. :P.
I started going through the article and before I would know I was done with it. I believed may be it’s the first time I am reading and that too after too long so it’s just an infatuation or the topic was good enough and anybody would have delivered similar thoughts. Nothing great or distinguishing about the writer Sonal Kalra, the topic itself has so much humour that she needn’t put mush efforts (hhmm.. nothing great pretty regular stuff..:P ). A week passed by in a fizzy and its Sunday again. I have completely forgotten about the column and started reading my horoscope & then I was caught again by another interesting title at the bottom and the same thing happened. I read it and smiled all through the article. There is something captivating about her writing style that hooked me up and I had to read it full, even her signatures.

The rest is history now; I am turning to a hard core fan of her writing style and topics selection which could be any wackiest thing from our day to day life.
I thoroughly enjoy her articles; they comfort my mind and reduce the daily stress levels by a huge margin. They are not heavy on words and I do not need to open a dictionary to understand, she makes her point without drilling a hole in your mind. Her articles have something that gives you a good laugh or at least a smile throughout.
I find motivational or inspirational stuff quite boring. & could even tolerate them for more than 5 minutes in my life.. I know what is good or bad…I don’t need any help.. :P. I believe in thinking and living light and have a Let it be.. attitude. I know some of you wouldn’t be liking it.. but who cares.. let it be.. 😛 😛
I believe in living a tension free life and enjoy each and every moment we have in our hands.. I must stop it here… its already so longg for you to read!! At last, I just want to say if you are looking for something good in your newspaper, read her(Sonal Karla’s) article every Sunday and share it with your friends.. I am sure you are gonna enjoy her as much as I do.
Kudos to Sonal Kalra.. Awesome Blossom job!!!
Please Note– I am not related to the Sonal Kalra in any manner other than being her avid reader. I adore her writing style, which gets all my attention even if I didn’t want to :P.
Sorry for such a long post .. I am all set to be snapped back for my poor writing and wasting your precious time.. If I have bored you beyond your tolerance levels then I will not repeat it .. (Just like an Obedient child… 😀 😀 ) .
your description is tempting me to read Sonal Kalra…n don’t you worry very soon you are going on a long long vacation 🙂
Heheh.. You must read her .. and I am sure you are gonna like it and hooked to her writeups like me!!! In our stressful life, we all need something good and light to read .. and she surely makes me forget my worries.. 😀 😀
Thankies.. couldnt wait more for them to start.. 😛
Hey I am a complete bookworm and read at least 2 books a week. I agree that reading main newspaper is quite boring as it only displays things which we have already watched on Television News Channels yesterday. So I mostly check out the editorials and sports page. I loved that term “Horrorscope” LoL. You know every time I check the horoscope column, it seems that all 12 zodiac signs are telling about me and describing my life 😛
By the way, great article and will definitely check out Sonal Kalra’s column this coming Sunday 🙂
I truly adore people like you.. avid readers.. who have inspired me to take up reading as a hobby.. and I treasure that. 😀 😀
In my college days when placement were in full swing I used to go through the whole newspaper without missing even the tiny-miny stroies..
At that time, Vir Sanghvi used to write an editorial column every sunday.. which i followed for long .. but now I just go for something light, funny and easy. 😀 😀
I thought I were the only one getting the feel that All of them are written for me.. thats why I feel they are too generic ..
Thanks dear.. I am sure you are gonna like.. do give me ur feedback.. 😀 😀
