How Many Times Do You Have to Do CoolSculpting to See the Results?
Have you heard of CoolSculpting yet? It is probably the fastest growing non invasive and non surgical cosmetic treatments available.
But what is CoolSculpting, and how does it work? How long does it take?
If you are asking all these questions, then read on to find out more about this innovative cosmetic treatment.
What Exactly Is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting was first invented by some scientists from Harvard who noticed the effect that extreme cold had on fat cells.
CoolSculpting was eventually approved by the FDA in 2010, and in the last few years has grown exponentially in popularity, with many celebrities, including Khloe Kardashian endorsing this treatment.
As it has grown in popularity, the price has come down making it more accessible for most people, and it has become more widely available around the world.
What makes it so popular is the fact it is non-invasive and non-surgical, with no recovery time, so it therefore has minimal disruption to our day to day lives.
CoolSculpting uses cold temperatures to kill fat cells, which are then removed by the body naturally.
At a session of CoolSculpting, the area being worked on is placed between two metal or plastic panels, which are then cooled to just above freezing.
The fat stays this way for between thirty minutes to one hour, and the treatment is then done and you can go about your normal daily activities.
The cold temperatures kill the fat cells, without damaging other surrounding tissues, and the body then uses its natural detox system – the liver – to remove the dead cells.
How Effective Is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is used for sculpting areas of the body that have stubborn fat that just won’t go, no matter how much you exercise or diet.
Therefore, CoolSculpting is not a treatment for obesity, and nor is it suitable for losing large areas of fat, it is more for sculpting the body.
You can expect to see a 25% reduction of fat in the area being treated, but the results are not seen immediately.
As the body has to naturally remove the dead fat cells, this can take some time. So, although you may see some changes in the treated areas within a few weeks, you won’t see the full results for up to six months.

How Many Sessions Do You Need?
This really depends on the amount of fat in the area being treated, most areas, such as under the chin will only need one session, as this is generally a very small area, so a 25% reduction in body fat is very significant.
However, in areas like the stomach or upper thighs, your clinician may recommend you to have two sessions, although very rarely do they advise to have more than two sessions.
You will have to wait between sessions for a few weeks, or a couple of months, depending on what your clinic advises.
Is CoolSculpting Permanent?
Technically, CoolSculpting is a permanent procedure, because it kills the fat cells, which are then removed from the body.
So, those exact fat cells can not return, as they have been killed and removed.
However, should you gain weight after the procedure has been completed, then the body can lay fat down again in those areas.
So continues exercise and healthy eating is recommended after the treatments, to keep the results you have achieved.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Due to the non-invasive and non-surgical nature of CoolSculpting, it is considered a very safe procedure compared to other cosmetic surgeries and treatments.
However, as with anything, there are always side effects to be aware of.
The most common, and most immediate side effect to be aware of, is the tugging or pulling sensation experienced during the treatment itself.
Post treatment, you can expect to experience a slight discomfort in the area, redness and bruising and some slight swelling is very common, but usually resolves within a few days.
Some people experience a pins and needles or tingling type feeling that preserves for some time, whilst others experience complete loss of sensation in that area, but in both cases you should be back to normal, with no treatment, within two weeks.
The last, and much rarer complication, is that some people will experience more fat being accumulated at the treated area, which is the exact opposite of what you want.
It is unknown why this happens, and it seems to affect men more than women, again, it is not known why.
If you do decide CoolSculpting is for you, then make sure you research your clinic, and make sure they are licensed, registered and experienced.
